The High Calories in Holiday Meals

With all the rich, sugary and fat-laden treats around, it’s not hard to put on weight during the holidays. Especially when you factor in seasonal beverages that are high in calories, such as cider or eggnog, and alcoholic drinks such as cocktails and beer.
Holiday meals can contain as many as 2,000 to 3,000 calories — more calories than the average person should eat in an entire day!
When dining at home you can make some changes to lower the calorie count — substituting skim milk for whole when making mashed potatoes, for instance — but when you’re dining out, it’s good to have some idea of how many calories are in your favorite dishes before you hit the holiday buffet.
