Anna Marie of The Unilever Consumer Kitchens shares her favorite standby recipes for unexpected company.

Love to get together with friends, but get stressed out from thinking about what to serve? The trick is to have a few good stand-by recipe ideas up your sleeve — and the ingredients on-hand.

I love having people stop by — whether it’s the kids’ friends, or our friends or family — especially on a sunny weekend. But I don’t want to be stuck in the house making something or running to the store at the last minute, so there are some staples I keep around that come in handy.

Cheese and crackers are must-haves. They store well and you can have a variety of flavors, shapes and colors. Fruit and cheese combos are also easy and are great for this time of the year. Sliced apples, pears, and even strawberries and pineapple work well with cheddar and Brie.

Speaking of Brie, my classic standby is Honey-Nut Glazed Brie. This recipe is so simple, can be customized how you like (or based on what you have on-hand) and looks so impressive! You can always make a quick dip too — and serve it with chips, crudités (sounds fancy, but celery sticks and baby carrots work great!) or crackers. Try our Hellmanns® Creamy Spinach Dip, The Famous Lipton® California Dip or, how about simply serving crudités with Wish-Bone® Ranch Dressing — can’t get easier than that — and the kids will love it!
