Calorie Alert! What’s Hiding in Restaurant Food?

When eating at a restaurant, you might think that you’re saving calories by opting for a salad. But — surprise! — you could be consuming just as many calories, perhaps even more, than if you had ordered a cheeseburger and fries.

What’s causing this dietary confusion? Restaurant portions are often double or triple normal serving sizes and seemingly minor add-ons such as cheese, croutons and bread can dramatically increase the amount of fat and calories in a meal without adding nutritional benefit or even satisfying your appetite. Toss in sauces and condiments and your “lean” lunch may deliver a full day’s worth of calories. Check out the calorie and fat gram counts (as reported by each establishment) for the restaurant dishes below. You’ll find full menus at each of the restaurant’s Websites.

wow...I cant believe there are so many calories in these things I used to love. I guess ignorance is bliss! I doubt I will ever be able to eat them without freaking out.

The hidden danger in all of those foods is that the first bite exceeds sour suggested sodium use for the day. How can we as consumes convince restaurants that we don't want all that salt. Many of us have made the change to herbs and spices for flavor at home and things in the reaturants no longer taste good, i hate to go out any more.
