Banish Bad Breath

image

Chronic bad breath is a burden. The embarrassing odor can affect personal interactions at home, at work and in social situations. While chewing gum and using mouthwash mask unpleasant odors, they do nothing to address the underlying cause of bad breath.

The best way to keep your breath fresh is through proper dental hygiene. Recent research shows that using antibacterial toothpaste and brushing the tongue are highly effective in reducing halitosis. Experts also advocate daily flossing, replacing your toothbrush every two to three months and semiannual checkups with the dentist.

Also be sure to drink plenty of water. Water prevents dry mouth and removes dead cells from the tongue, gums and cheeks, so your breath doesn’t become stale.

If self-care doesn’t improve the situation, see a dentist or doctor. Halitosis might have origins in gum disease, sinus infections or illnesses like mononucleosis and bronchitis. It can also indicate problems with the lungs, liver or kidneys, or conditions such as diabetes and acid reflux. You’ll need professional help to identify and treat these problems.

Using a toothpaste with baking soda really helps too!
