Ever scrambled at the last minute for a serving bowl? Can’t figure out what to put the garlic mashed potatoes in? Go through a dry run with your platters and bowls before a party. Set them all out on the table, and place a note in each dish to account for everything you’re serving.

   my mother always did this and i thought she was nuts. Now i do it myself!

   I do this also. Mix up the pedistal serving pieces with the flat ones. It gives the table(s) depth. Also, don't have everything matching - use the crystal, gold and silver, patterns. If at nightime,and using candles, go for those serving pieces that will "sparkle" in the candlelight.
