Please be advised that baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) should not be given to children under age 5. It is used as an antacid to alleviate heartburn. It contains .238 g of sodium in 1/4 teaspoon which adds to the upper limit of 2.4 g of sodium per day. Most Americans consume over this limit. This can contribute to Hypertension (high blood pressure) and other comorbidities. Thank you, Lisa K. Lapinski, RD ADA Member
