Amaze your child by showing him how to build a miniature volcano that actually erupts. Make a mound of dirt in the backyard. Remove one end of a tin can. Press the can, open end up, into the top of the mound deeply enough so that you can’t see it. Place ¼ cup baking soda into this “crater.” In a pitcher, mix ½ cup water, ½ cup vinegar, ¼ cup dishwashing liquid and a few drops of red food coloring. Pour the mixture from the pitcher into the crater and watch in awe as red lava bubbles up and rushes down the sides of the volcano.
