Even if you’re miles away from the nearest farm, your family can still have a ball making a scarecrow. Search your closets and attic for clothes with personality — coveralls, a ballerina’s tutu, an old business suit, a bridesmaid’s dress. No hay for stuffing? Use dried leaves or old pillow and sleeping-bag stuffing. Wigs, costume jewelry, eye patches, canes, crazy hats, craft paints and rubber boots will help bring out the character of your scarecrow. Then, surprise your neighbors by putting your scarecrow in an unexpected place — sitting in a tree, leaning against your shed or sitting on your porch swing.
