The Festive Flapper
For the perfect Halloween party outfit, make your own retro glamour

The roaring twenties are back! The flapper is a fun, flirty costume for a grown-up party. And there's no need to spend big bucks on a store-bought one if you're willing to put in a little work. For a more authentic, old-fashioned look, visit an inexpensive vintage shop and find a plain, tank-style sheath in a neutral color like black, gray or a muted red or blue hue.
Then jazz it up with lots of accessories: knee-high or fishnet stockings, chunky heels and strings of faux pearls. To make your own sparkly headband, buy a bit of sequined elastic at a fabric shop and sew the ends together; add feathers for more flair. If you are a more rebellious flapper, carry toy gun or flask into a garter belt. Or add a feathery, dark-colored boa.
For a spookier version, go as a zombie flapper. Get all the same accessories, but distress your costume a bit by tearing the fabric and putting holes in your stockings. Apply a thin layer of green face paint to give your skin a zombie-worthy glow, and add dark circles under your eyes.

I am voting for the flapper costume. Everyone has been a witch.
