Homemade Halloween Costumes — In a Hurry!

Haven’t found the time to go costume shopping with your kids? Fear not, there are plenty of creative costumes you can fashion from materials you already own. Here’s what you can do if you have:

Balloons – Depending on what color balloons you have, there are number of costumes you can improvise. For grapes, your child should wear all black clothing and then attach green or purple balloons using double-sided tape. If you have blue balloons on hand, your child can be a bunch of blueberries. Or perhaps your friend is having a baby girl and you recently threw her a shower? Just use the pink and white balloons and your child can be a bubble bath.

Cardboard boxes – If you have two white boxes, you can cut armholes and a head hole in each and then paint on black dots. Volià, two children are a pair of dice. You can also use two boxes to make a robot costume: use a smaller one for the head and a larger one for the body. For decoration, use tinfoil. The knobs and control buttons can be cut out of cardboard as well.

Felt (and a glue gun) - As long as you can find a black oversized hooded sweatshirt, black pants and orange Crocs in your child’s closet, you’ve got the makings of a cute penguin outfit. Just hot glue a piece of white felt to the sweatshirt for the stomach and an orange triangular piece of felt to the hood for a beak. (If you make one purchase, you may want to consider large googly eyes for the hood.)
