Clean plates make happy chefs. But sometimes even the most enjoyable meals can yield leftovers. Freezing and reheating food can be economical — not to mention delicious! Here are some general rules of thumb when it comes to saving your leftovers.

Safety First!

  • How long should you wait before refrigerating or freezing your food? No more than two hours.
  • When storing food, use short, shallow containers. This will allow for faster cooling.
  • Don’t keep refrigerated leftovers for more than two days. Labeling your containers with dates will help you keep track of this.

Turkey Time

  • Frozen turkey can be kept for up to six months. Store turkey and stuffing separately.
  • When reheating turkey, the oven should be set at a minimum of 325 degrees and the turkey should be at least 165 degrees. Do not reheat turkey more than once.
  • Using gravy (try Knorr® Roasted Turkey Gravy) or barbecue sauce can add moisture to reheated turkey.
