Kitchen Basics: Meat Marinating 101
Anna Marie of the Unilever Consumer Kitchens reveals her top three marinating tips for grilling.

Before you fire up your grill, take a look at these three simple marinating tips that can help you take your cookout to the next level.
- The right stuff. There are a wide variety of options for tasty marinades. Don’t have enough time to go shopping for one? Check your pantry. Barbecue sauce, preserves and soy sauce are all great options. Wish–Bone® Italian Dressing is one of my favorites. This double–duty dressing is perfect for when you want to add that extra zing to your entrée. (Try it out with Wish-Bone® Marinade Chicken Italiano.)
- Play it cool. For the best results, place your chicken, beef or fish in a shallow, nonaluminum baking dish, pour on the marinade and set the dish in your refrigerator to marinate…especially when it’s hot out! Be sure to discard the marinade after marinating.
- It’s all about frequency. One of the most common misconceptions about marinating is that it requires a lot of time and pre–planning. Even if you leave your chicken, beef or fish to marinate for just a few minutes, as long as you baste heavily while you’re grilling you’ll still get lots of flavor! So, you’ll have a tasty meal in no time!
