Kitchen Basics: How to Roast Vegetables

Lauren of the Unilever Consumer Kitchens shares four easy steps to more flavorful veggies.

Lauren from The Unilever Consumer Kitchens

Root vegetables such as carrots, potatoes and onions were practically designed for roasting! Not only can this cooking method intensify flavor, but it can also bring out a veggie’s natural sweetness. Here, four simple steps to help you achieve sweet success when roasting your favorite fresh produce:

  1. 1. Use a large shallow pan or baking sheet — the bottom of a broiler pan works too.

  2. 2. Cut vegetables into similar–size pieces.

  3. 3. Coat vegetables with a small amount of melted spread or oil (about one teaspoon per cup of veggies), and season with salt and pepper. (Lipton® Recipe Secrets® Savory Herb with Garlic Soup Mix also works well. Try it in our recipe for Oven-Roasted Vegetables.)

  4. 4. Roast at high temperature, stirring occasionally.
