• Add your comments. Let others know how you’ve handled a topic, add a tip, tell us what you liked about a recipe or let us know what’s on your mind.
• Help make others’ lives better. Share your tried-and-true tips for getting dinner on the table fast, finding time for yourself, looking and feeling your best and more.

Becoming a member is easy and free. Go to the Sign in page, choose a member name and password, then answer the brief questions that follow. Your answers will help us provide you with useful articles and recipes, as well as special offers and promotions, to help make your life better.

Choosing your member name: Please note that your member name will be displayed along with your comments on articles or recipes and when you submit tips. It must be at least five characters long, using only letters and numbers. Member names with spaces, symbols or special characters will not be accepted.

If the member name you entered is being used by someone else, choose another or add numbers to your original choice to make it unique.

Choosing your password: Your password must be at least eight characters long. Please use only letters and numbers. Passwords with spaces, symbols or special characters will not be accepted.

Once you’re a member of makinglifebetter.com, enter your member name and password in the Sign in box at the top right corner of the page or by going to the Sign in page.

If you check the “Remember me” box, you won’t have to sign in every time you visit the site. We will automatically recognize you and give you access to members-only features (saving recipes to “My Favorites”, commenting on articles, submitting tips). Like many companies, we remember you by using a “cookie,” which is a small computer file that contains an ID tag. This cookie doesn’t gather any personal information about you or extract any information from your computer. It simply tells us whether you are a member or a new visitor.

When not to check the “Remember me” box: The “Remember me” feature saves time, because it allows members to bypass the sign-in process. But you may not want to check the box if

• You are visiting makinglifebetter.com from a shared computer in a public place (library, school, Internet café)
• You visit makinglifebetter.com from multiple computers and browsers (home and work, for example)
• You visit makinglifebetter.com from a computer that you share with others who have their own makinglifebetter.com member names and passwords.

If you are a member and you can’t remember your member name or password, go to the Forgot Your Sign-in Information page by clicking on the link at the top right corner of any page. Enter either your member name or the e-mail address listed in your profile, and we’ll send you an e-mail with your sign-in information.

When you are signed in, you’ll see a welcome message and links to "My Profile" and "My Favorites" at the top right corner of the page. When you’re not signed in, you’ll see a sign in box at the top right corner of the page.

Click the “Sign out” button at the top right corner of the page. If you don’t see it or the site’s welcome message, you are not signed in.

Sign in, then go to My Profile using the link in the Welcome box at the top right corner of the page. Remember to click "Save changes" once you’ve updated your information. Please note that you cannot change your member name.

You can save as many tips, articles and recipes as you like to "My Favorites" so you can find them when you need them quickly and easily. Organize them using the My Folders feature, where creating, renaming and deleting folders is easy. So you can save all your recipes in one place or, if you change your mind, organize them by ingredient or occasion.

Once you’re signed in, save any tip, article or recipe to "My Favorites" by clicking next to the print and e-mail icons. You’ll be asked to select a folder for the recipe, article or tip. You can save it to an existing folder or create a new one. Then click “Save,” to confirm that the information has been saved. At that point you can click on the folder’s name to open it or you can close the window and return to browsing the site.

Sign in to the site using the Sign in box at the top right corner of the page or by visiting the Sign in page. Once you’re signed in, you’ll see a welcome message and links to "My Profile" and "My Favorites" at the top right corner of the page. Click My Favorites to see your folders. The number next to each folder (on the left side of the page) shows how many tips, articles and recipes you’ve saved. Click on a folder to see all the tips, articles and recipes.

There are two ways to create new folders. When saving a tip, article or recipe, you can create a folder simply by typing its name in the “Create a new folder” box and clicking “Save.” You can also create a folder when you’re in "My Favorites" by typing its name in the “Create a new folder” box on the left side of the page. The new folder immediately will be added to your list of folders.

Open the folder and click the checkbox to the right of the title of the tip, article or recipe you want to move. Next, choose the new folder from the drop-down list of all of your folders in the darker blue bar above.

Open the folder, check the box to the right of the tip, article or recipe’s title, then click “Delete” (in the darker blue bar above). When asked to confirm that you want to delete the page, click “Yes, delete.”

Click the “Edit” link above the list of your folders, which will take you to your folders list. Click “Rename” next to the appropriate folder, type the folder’s new name in the pop-up window and click “Save.”

Community Rules and Standards

Age. You must be at least 18 years old to register and participate in our community.

Agree to disagree, respectfully. The Unilever Community is a place where it's okay – and we encourage you to be yourself, – as long as you always act with respect for your fellow Unilever Community members. Be respectful and civil to other members, even if you disagree with them. The objective of our community is to understand one another, not to attack others and convince them that you're right. Name-calling, insults, "flaming" and attacks are not appropriate and will not be tolerated.

Don't be afraid to post. If you're new to our community, you may feel hesitant to post a message for the first time. Don't be afraid to jump into a discussion. Our goal is to have a very supportive community that serves up heavy doses of encouragement and enthusiasm.

Keep your posts clean. Any unacceptable content (posts, member names or subject lines containing profanity or sexually graphic or offensive language, and so forth) will be deleted. Similarly, any posts that solicit or offer explicit or X-rated GIFs, JPEGs or other graphic or video files will be deleted without notice. Please keep in mind that this is a public discussion forum.

No personal information, such as e-mail addresses, phone numbers and Instant Message identities, will be permitted to be posted in the community. Posts that request members to submit personal information to another party will be removed unless approved by the Unilever Moderation Team. These include, but are not limited to, communications that ask for personal information submitted via e-mail, mail, telephone, surveys and research studies.

Flooding and spam. Please do not flood, spam, or post chain letters, pyramid schemes, junk mail or URLs for outside sites that violate any of these guidelines. Failure to comply will result in account suspension and could prevent you from further accessing the Unilever site.

Keep an open mind. Whether you're looking for answers or have questions about Unilever, our members are here to help. Please keep in mind that other members may claim expertise or status (legal, medical and so forth) that they do not, in fact, possess. Use discretion in following their advice.

Harassment and threats. We do not allow language or behavior that is harassing, threatening, racist, abusive, hateful, violent or obscene. Any prejudicial statements, comments or remarks in posts or profiles will be removed immediately. Retaliation against any person complaining of discrimination will not be tolerated.

Illegal activities. Participating in, suggesting or encouraging any illegal activity is cause for immediate deletion of posts and suspension of posting privileges. Such activity may be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Be courteous: Avoid duplicate posts. Do not post the same message more than once. Duplicate messages can be frustrating for other members, especially for those whose time and energy are limited. Duplicate messages will be deleted.

Don't post commercial items. This is an advertising-free community. No commercial solicitation or advertising will be allowed. Posts containing commercial or product/service promotional messages – including but not limited to references to Internet sites, URLs or links to other commercial Web sites – will be removed.

Don't post others' copyrighted information. Any articles, news reports or other copyrighted material included in the posts must be with the permission of the relevant copyright owners. If such an event occurs, the individual posting the information shall be held solely responsible. Unilever will not be held responsible for member-posted information that may violate copyright law.

Republishing your words. We know your words are often filled with wisdom or can inspire many members, and we want to bring the best of our community to a larger audience. We do this by quoting your posts in newsletters and other promotions, including but not limited to TV, magazines, newspapers, radio, Internet and product packaging. When we republish your words for wide distribution, we will identify you only by your member name.

Reserved right. Unilever reserves the right to remove a post that does not relate to the topic being discussed. If you haven't read the Unilever Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, please do so.

When two or more people have rated a tip, article or recipe, we calculate and display the average of those ratings at the top of the page. When you search the site, you can display the highest-rated tips, articles and recipes at the top of your results by sorting them by “Rating.”
