Take it all off! Your skin will thank you.
Makeup can change your appearance and mood in an instant. With a swipe of a lipstick and dab of mascara you can transform from playful to sexy to bright-eyed — when you’re really on your third cup of coffee.
But leaving traces of makeup your face can wreak havoc on your skin. “It can be tempting to go to bed without taking off your makeup when you’re exhausted, but don’t do it,” warns online shopping expert Michelle Madhock and CEO of SheFinds.com and MomFinds.com. “It can lead to clogged pores, breakouts and even eye infections.”
Remove every last bit of makeup and reveal healthy, glowing skin with these squeaky-clean steps.
Pre-clean. “I love the new Pond's® Evening Soothe Towelette", says style and beauty expert Jenn Falik, host of MSN.com’s Beauty BFF “I use one to take off my makeup before I wash my face.” Falik recommends swiping it over oft-overlooked spots like the corner of your nose. She keeps a stash in her gym bag and by her bedside for those I-feel-lazy moments.
Deep clean. Madhock suggests a cleanser like Pond’s® Cold Cream to banish any remaining traces of makeup (and makeup remover) and leave you feeling fresh. Use a massaging motion to lift away the last bits of your foundation. “That helps power up any cleanser and gets rid of grime,” says fashion and beauty expert Rebekah George.
All about eyes. To gently remove mascara, cover the entire eye area with a layer of Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly and swipe it off with a cotton pad. If you use waterproof mascara, let the jelly sit on lashes for a few minutes before wiping away. (Be careful not to pull too hard and yank out your lashes)
Kiss off lipstick. That matte mouth doesn’t stand a chance. Tackle any long-wearing lipstick the same way you’d remove eye makeup: Apply Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly and wipe off with a cotton pad.
Prep for prettier skin. Now that you’re fresh-faced, applying the right products can help get you glowing. “The other important reason to take off makeup at night is that skin can really rejuvenate itself while you sleep, so your anti-aging products work better,” says George. Try adding serum or a night cream to your P.M. beauty routine. You may wake up to more amazing skin.
