What's This Season's Hottest Bag?

If saving the planet is your bag, have we got a tote for you! As you've probably guessed, the season's coolest carryalls are the cloth or otherwise reusable bags you take to the supermarket, so you don't have to tote home a dozen of the store's plastic sacks.

In fact, in some places, those ubiquitous plastic sacks are no longer free. In 2002, Ireland started charging customers 33¢ per bag at the register. Within weeks, plastic bag usage dropped by 94%. And within a year, the habit of BYOB (bring your own bag) to the grocery store was so deeply engrained that most people simply stopped needing plastic at all. Stateside, Seattle's mayor has proposed a similar plan, which would levy a 20¢ charge on every plastic sack requested.

Get your own tote today and start sporting the green trend. Low-cost bags are available at grocery stores and drug stores, or go chic and pick one up at an eco-boutique.
