Expert Advice: Pretty in Pink
Rosy shades of makeup will leave you looking youthful and lovely.

Pink isn’t just for little girls anymore. This feminine color is the perfect choice for looking all grown-up and gorgeous. Whether you blush over raspberry or rose, there’s a shade just right for your skin tone, says professional makeup artist Mally Roncal. “Pink is my favorite color in the world,” Roncal says. “It’s young, uplifting, and it makes you feel like a girl!” The best news: Today’s pink hues are also strong, fresh and appropriate for all ages.
Create luscious lips. “Pink is my go-to color for lips,” Roncal says. “It makes you appear younger.” To get the look, start with a light-pink lip gloss. Look for one “the color of a baby’s lips,” Roncal says. Then add a tiny bit of shimmer with a touch of gold-toned lip gloss. “This reflects light and gives you a more juicy look,” she says. Women with darker skin tones should choose a pinky-brown lip color, Roncal says. “It makes the lips look fuller but not too ashy.”
Wake up your eyes. Pink? For your peepers? Absolutely, Roncal says. “A great look is to use brown on the lash line and the lid, and then add a soft pink shadow in the crease and on the brow bone,” she notes. Make sure you use eyeliner for definition and always follow Roncal’s No.1 rule for eyes: Curl your lashes and wear mascara.
Give your face a youthful blush. “Starting in our thirties, we begin to lose that natural glow,” Roncal says. “Pink looks youthful and calls back that healthy blush to the cheeks.”
Choose a natural-looking pink that will work with your skin tone and type. Women with darker skin should choose a redder shade of pink; fair-skinned women should choose a sheer pink. In general, women with oily skin should choose a powder blush. Dry skin? Try a cream blush, which gives your skin a dewy appearance.
When applying blush, “you don’t want to look like a wooden soldier with circles of color,” Roncal says. “Smile and find the apple of your cheek. Apply it there and blend it up and out toward the temples.”
And for evening, “don’t be afraid to add a bit of gold shimmer,” Roncal says. “It looks good on any skin color.”
