Lovely Layers: Wearing Wraps, Scarves & Cardigans

Silk, cotton or cashmere scarves and cardigans can always have you covered when there’s a chill in the air — whether it’s from air conditioning or caused by a change of season. Pile on these chic layers to warm up your look.
Pashminas are the workhorses of the scarf world. From keeping you warm to adding a dash of color to a monochrome look, there are endless ways to wear them. You can even create a smart capelet by wrapping one around your shoulders and tying it in a loose knot below your chest.
Nowadays cardigans are giving blazers a run for their money in the layering department. Try a cropped one over a floaty dress or sport a long one over a pencil skirt and opaque hose for a style with perfect proportions.
Printed silk scarves are great multitaskers. Wear one around your neck, thread one through your belt loops or tie one to the handle of your handbag. Small square scarves look chic on a ponytail.
Seen on the streets: Long, narrow cotton scarves the size of a muffler but much lighter. Young women are wrapping them around their necks a couple of times, then letting the long ends flow. These scarves — either solid or striped — are another stylish hedge against too-cold rooms.
