Look Gorgeous All Summer!

From healthy skin to cool fashion, our guide to impeccable style.

From sundresses to sandals to sunglasses, summer fashion has a lot going for it. But there are plenty of pitfalls — humidity–wrecked hair! unpolished toenails! — for the unprepared woman. Here’s our guide to looking lovely, even when the heat is on.

First of all, embrace the warm weather as a great excuse to flaunt your figure in dresses and skirts. Our favorite: a simple solid–colored A–line dress in thick cotton. It looks gorgeous on everybody, and it can take you from the office to an evening out with just the drop of a cardigan. If you’re not a skirt kind of gal, there are numerous reasons to embrace trendy wide–leg trousers that are cute and practical for more casual days.

Remember: Your summer look should not include the same old ratty tankini that’s been lurking around for years. Find a suit that flatters your figure and makes you feel confident, beautiful and ready to dive in the water.

When the humidity rages, what to wear is often the least of your problems. The real issue: What to do with this hair? For locks that tend to fall flat, a sleek ponytail with a touch of mousse can do wonders; for wavy and curly–haired ladies, the best advice is to embrace the volume, not fight it. A touch of smoothing serum will help ward off frizz and keep your curls bouncy.

If it’s hair of another sort you’re worried about, check out our everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know guide to hair removal. (Yes, we’ll tell you just how painful waxing is.) And once your skin is smooth and hair–free, make sure to protect it from the sun by using a sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Use an SPF of at least 15 every day.

But looking gorgeous from head to toe just isn’t possible without, well, the perfect pedicure. Save your pennies by stocking up on a great nail polish like Sephora by O.P.I. and then giving yourself a salon treatment at home. Although polish typically lasts longer on toenails than on fingernails, you’ll still need to update it every few weeks.
