Hot-Weather Hair Tips
Summertime and the livin’ is easy? Not when it comes to styling your hair.

Ahhh, summer — barbecues, baseball, fresh-cut grass — and bad-hair days! Alas, it’s true: When it comes to warm weather, almost everything seems easier, except styling your hair. Luckily, these tried-and-true tips will help your locks behave and look great until the temperature and humidity drop.
Accessorize. Humidity may be the hair devil, but a great accessory can be a little bit of heaven. This season, the bigger and flashier the better: Think giant combs, bright-colored Pucci-esque scarves (a popular look on the spring ’08 runways) and, yes, a ’70s favorite, scrunchies. Accessories are also the best way to keep things simple and relaxed. Don’t want to bother with a blow-dryer? Grab that jeweled hair band and, snap, you’re done.
Rinse. Salt, chlorine, heat and excessive shampooing are the real culprits when it comes to summer-hair abuse. Keep things clean and simple: Always rinse off after a dip in the ocean or pool.
If you’re participating in a lot of outdoor activities, you’re probably sweating more than usual and showering to compensate. This can lead to overshampooing, which can strip hair of the natural oils it needs to stay healthy.
Instead of reaching for the shampoo every time you shower, consider a relaxing head massage with warm water. It will make you feel better, help increase circulation and rinse away excess oils to leave hair refreshed not dried out.
Use those products. Styling gels and serums will also help you look pulled together by pumping up and perfecting your tousled beach hair. Here are some of the best ways to use them.
For a sleek, fresh-from-the-pool ponytail, spritz damp hair with a spray gel. Pull into an elastic and smooth. Extra credit: For ultra-control, apply an antifrizz cream.
For soft beach waves, start by towel-drying hair. Place a quarter-size dollop of curl-enhancing cream in your hands rub them together. Bend your head and scrunch hair in sections. Let hair air-dry. Extra credit: For a finishing touch, add a small amount of frizz-control serum to ends.

When I know I'm going to be in the sun all day (and in the pool), I put a small bit of conditioner in my hand and evenly distribute it in my hair.
