Gorgeous, Shiny Hair
Who needs a pricey salon appointment? Here’s everything you can do at home to improve the health — and shine — of your hair.

Every woman wants silky, shiny hair. But who wants to break the bank buying costly hair-care products? Fortunately you don’t have to. “These days the hot trend is practicing Suavenomics — the art of living beautifully for less,” says Suave® celebrity hairstylist Luke O’Connor. Here’s how.
Clean and condition. “I recommend using Suave® Vibrant Shine Shampoo and Conditioner, which is formulated to cleanse and remove unwanted build-up and reveal hair’s natural shine,” O’Connor says. “Leave the conditioner in, and wrap your hair in a hot towel for about 15 minutes for a deeper treatment.”
Blow-dry using salon tricks. Always use a nozzle on your blow-dryer to better direct the air flow, O’Connor says. Use a ventilated, round brush, and aim the nozzle down from root to tip. “Never aim up,” he adds. “It will encourage frizz or flyaways.” It doesn’t hurt to use a ceramic straight-iron if you want stick-straight hair. “And I like to capture any frizz and add a bit more shine with Suave® Sleek Anti-Frizz Cream. Just a penny-size dollop in your palm will do the trick.”
Get that celebrity glow with shine spray. Shine spray can help create a healthy, textured look, O’Connor says. “After styling hair, hold the spray eight to 10 inches from your head and apply evenly for a lightweight shine,” he advises. “But don’t overdo it. Two or three spritzes should work.”
Drink plenty of water. “I absolutely recommend staying hydrated,” O’Connor says. “It’s one of the easiest and most economical tips for shiny, healthy hair.”
Chill out when shampooing. “When you wash your hair, turn the water temperature down a bit and try to make the final rinse cold,” O’Connor advises. “This will help seal the cuticles to leave hair smooth and shiny. Also, if you can help it, try not to wash your hair every day. That way you’ll retain those wonderful natural oils that give hair an organic shine.”
Brush up on brushing techniques. “If you’re hair is dry, do a thorough brush before bed once a week,” O’Connor says. “Use a boar-bristle brush and stroke from the scalp all the way to the ends. This helps spread natural oils and stimulates circulation.”
Protect your hair from the sun. Too much sun exposure can be tough on hair, O’Connor says. “I recommend using Suave® Damage Care Shampoo and Conditioner to moisturize and repair* dry, damaged hair,” he adds. “For a casual day outdoors, don’t rinse every last drop of conditioner from your hair. Leave in just a small amount for a bit of added protection from dryness.” O’Connor also recommends wearing a scarf or hat to protect your hair.
