Beautiful Bamboo

A perennial grass, bamboo has many planet-benefiting qualities; It’s a renewable resource that grows quickly without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. It stores carbon dioxide, a net positive in the battle against global warming. And it’s biodegradable, so it won’t languish in landfills for years.
As a fabric, bamboo is easy to care for, comfortable and superabsorbent. What’s more, it naturally repels germs. Most often found in T-shirts, underwear, sheets and towels on its own or blended with other fibers, bamboo’s profile is slowly changing as designers incorporate the soft, silky textile into more fashionable pieces, from dresses to sports jackets.
But, bamboo has its downside. Processing it into fabric can be polluting, and shipping it from China burns a great deal of fossil fuels. Neverthless, experts say it’s still a sustainable choice because of its minimal impact on the earth.
